The Consort

2007

Morten Lauridsen

In early 2007 we "discovered" Morten Lauridsen and the stunning piece "O Magnum Mysterium" and rushed to buy copies of the music. Then we found other local choral societies had "discovered" him too, and it was as if word of mouth was spreading the news of this talented composer. If you have not heard his music, find it and try it.

Knut Nystedt

Another discovery was "Laudate Dominum" by Knut Nystedt. This piece is a really great fanfare, yet short and crisp and so joyous. Everyone was taken by it and we are booked to sing it at Susie's Wedding in May. You should try it. Great for a small group.

The Muppets

Simon Beattie, one of our Tenors, is also a dab hand at arranging pieces and he had a great success with "Someone's waiting for you" from the Rescuers. When jokingly asked if he could do pieces from other shows, he obliged with the theme from the "Muppets" which had its world premiere in December. Lots of fun and well received.

Lane Price

We heard a Spiritual arranged by a Canadian, Lane Price, called "Down to the River to Pray". At first sight it seemed to be quite simple, but as we developed it we found that it was a complex piece to sing as each verse was scored differently. We persevered and this is now in the repertoire.

Damon Singers

Many of us sing, or have sung, with the Damon Singers, based in Chesham (Bucks). 2007 marked the 50th anniversary of that group and a whole day was set aside to celebrate. All the leaders attended and many original singers. The Consort was invited back to perform a slot in the evening concert as we once used to do on a regular basis.

We chose "Viva la Musica - The wine of Love" by a one time leader, Richard Grylls, "And so it goes" by Billy Joel and the spiritual by Lane Price. We sang up to the occasion and many of the singers and all the leaders there were extremely generous in their praise.
